new adventures

I'm not sure how much i've alluded to this on here, but to start this post properly, you should know that i have not been completely happy with my housing situation. I love my room within the apartment, but the roommate situation has left things to be desired. But as of yesterday around 2pm, I signed a new lease and I am moving!

When i decided to move to Chicago, I knew that i would need to share an apartment because studios are about twice as expensive as i could afford. I scoured Craig's List looking for something in my price range and settled on this current one because it is beautiful in a nice neighborhood. But i was also looking for community and found it lacking. In arranging for the next renter to come in, i think i am gaining some perspectives on the current roomies though. I wrote them a note on Saturday (no one was around) and by the time i returned from a friends sleepover on Sunday night, no one had responded at all which kind of hurt my feelings. Also they are not interested in helping pick my replacement. Seeing their reactions makes me realize just how little interest they have in me, or any other person that will move into this apartment. For once, I don't really blame them: if a new person is coming in ever few months, why bother to get attached? I've gained some perspective on it, but i still think they go about the roommate situation in the wrong way, I'm just sorry my attempts to win them over with cookies were not more successful.

I am also going to use this as a last opportunity to rant about the one particular roommate i didn't like, once i get this out of my system i am going to let it be in the past. Things that Vanessa did that made me want to move: called me fat, shushed my friends, hogged the bathroom and kitchen space, set the thermostat at 72, lied to me about paying extra because she likes to set the thermostat so high, told me to be quiet because she was going to sleep at 7pm, avoided me within the apartment, and threw away some of my food and then laughed about it. Also, she didn't share toilet paper but that is just a funny story to tell at parties in the future.

I will be living with Ericca, a friend from Grinnell in a lovely two bedroom apartment in the Logan Square neighborhood. I am so excited about so many parts of it, but let me share just a few--i will have approximately five times as much cabinet and fridge space in a kitchen with neat built in cabinents, a huge bay window in the sunny front room which also has built ins, a lime green bathroom and tangerine kitchen, a wonderful landlord, and a mudroom. Ahhhh! So excited!
