Projects and Preparation

Even though I am not the one getting married this weekend, I feel like i have been doing a lot of projects in preparation for this weekend. Some of these are directly related to the wedding, like my two week long teeth whiting crusade and the Emily buys makeup for the first time in her adult life extravaganza. Others are related to my parents' habit of cleaning the house before going on a trip so that things are nice and neat to welcome you home.

To back up, let's start with wedding projects. Yes, the makeup extravaganza felt like just that to me as a strident non-makeup wearer. Basically, I am pretty conscious that a lot of pictures of me will be taken this weekend and I want to take a few extra steps to look good. So I went to the Clinque counter and got a half make over (she did up half of my face...). It was kind of scary and uncomfortable, but it did look good in the end and I purchased just enough to score a Clinique bonus bag (yes!). The best part of the whole experience was the name of the store across from the Clinique counter: Carol's Daughter. I couldn't make up a coincidence like that! I kept thinking to myself- that's why I'm here! I'm Carol's daughter and she doesn't wear makeup either! Anyways, we both got a kick out of it.

Tonight's pre-wedding project was: Learn the Thriller Dance. That's right, the Michael Jackson Thriller dance. Now, this has been in the works since before MJ died and it is more about having something special and fun to do at the reception than about him. I'm a little behind on learning my steps due to lack of internet (more on that later maybe) but I put in a solid three hours tonight and I am pretty confident now that I can pull it off for the wedding. I should say I am confident that I can do the steps, doing them in my dress might be a bit of a different story.

Other pre-trip plans can basically be boiled down to finally pulling the apartment together. So I've been hasseling and haggeling with a certain internet company to finally get our internet service set up. Ericca and I had been counting "strikes" as in failed attempts and by the time we were finally connected last night were had had eight strikes. It was a glorious moment when that google machine finally showed up. Also, I have been sewing curtains! I'll probably dedicate a full post to them later but after buying and disliking store bought curtains I am really happy with the fabric I found and glad I decided to make my own. Tomorrow's projects involve laundry (boo), finishing the curtains, reviewing Thriller and changing over my bus tickets before my trip home on Friday!
