Some pretty amazing things happened today.
This afternoon I decided to go on a walk to Humboldt Park a pretty large city park near where I live. Now, Humboldt Park is sadly one of those places where a girl shouldn't go walking alone at night but it was still nice and sunny (and wonderfully warm) here so I went for it. It was so nice today and I feel like the park is under utilized since it has a bad reputation. Anyways, there is a big lagoon that I walked all the way around and it is just beautiful. This time of year there are ducks floating around and there are still leaves on the ground to crunch in if you want to (i do!). I was three quarters of the way around at a part of the lagoon that I had never been to when in the distance I see splotches of color. As I get closer, I can see they are flowers, Cosmos to be more specific. There on the other side of a bridge is an island completely covered in Cosmos that are still in bloom! In the middle of November! Cosmos are one of my favorite flowers so I knew right away I would be taking some home with me. Using my keys I cut myself a little bouquet and headed home. Another thing to know about my neighborhood, is you get a lot of looks if you are a 6 foot tall (white) girl. This is especially true when you are holding a bouquet of flowers but it was completely worth it to have fresh, free flowers sitting next to me while I type this. Amazing!
Also, from where I am sitting at the kitchen table with my flowers right next to me I can see into the oven where my apple crisp is currently bubbling away. We got a bag of pretty mushy apples from the grocery store so tonight I decided to turn them into something a little less mealy and a little more edible. Within the next five minutes those gross apples with be tasty apple crisp. Amazing!
