At the beginning of my time in Chicago, i definitely had a lot of time to read or bake or watch movies and other things to relax. And it was amazing, a great way to sort of detox from the craziness of graduating, leaving Grinnell, working at Panera again, moving details, leaving home etc. But it also got old. I am sure there will be some time in my life when i look back and wish for all of that free time. But really there is more to life than that, or at least there will be more to my life than that. I am proud to say i have less free time now because other areas of my life are picking up.
So perhaps a little shout out to the Chicago friends, you betcha, the majority of whom happen to also be Grinnellians. This weekend was another example of our ability to pull stuff together. Granted Megan's sweater party had some pre-planning, of course, but it is also amazing how people congregate around each other. While parties are great, i often like the times leading up to them or following them just as much. It is very encouraging to have a group of people who will tolerate and even indulge my silliness.
The upside of a more moderate amount of free time is you appreciate what you have even more. And let me just say, this is a lovely evening alone in my space. To paint a little picture for y'all, i'm sitting in my chair, with my Grandma Alice blanket, candles lit, tea brewed, listening to a CD made by a dear friend, and enjoying the breezes coming in my window (its so warm here today!).
btw: tomorrow will also feature a post, so look forward to a double header week for this particular blog.
