So i haven't done one of my beginning of the month reports in a while and i think it is still early enough in the month for me to pull it off, plus, I love June!
This June comes with an event I have long been anticipating, the end of my term or what i also like to think of as my pending unemployment. Ahh, yes, what a tough mixture of emotions. I am very much ready to move on to a different job, but it is also quite nice having the security of a job (nearly any job) and the monetary benefit that comes with a job. Still working on the networking and on sending applications to interesting organizations, so fingers crossed!
June also means, in theory, warmer weather! This actually crosses into May a bit, but I did a really exciting bike ride called Bike the Drive late last month which definitely got me started on my cycling kick for the summer. For Bike the Drive, they shut down Lake Shore Drive (Deb, Dominic the boys and I all got very lost here once...) and let riders have free reign. I had volunteered the day before the event and so got to do it for free! For the first ride of the season 30 miles was maybe pushing it but it was so nice to be able to let lose and ride on the big open highway. Kinda makes a girl want to do Ragbrai...
June also means outdoor reading! Last weekend (again, not technically June but go with it) I bought myself a new chair for the deck and planted my "garden". Through luck, i have a mostly free garden: i got several seeds packets at a green housing conference and the people who lived in the apartment before us left behind a few planters and bags of potting soil. Soon i will have spinach, cilantro and cucumbers in addition to the existing herb garden of basil (tons of it!), chives, garlic and peppermint. Oh, and one pretty flowering plant i bought at the farmers' market yesterday. That's right, June marks the beginning of farmers' market season. Welcome to summer.
