Ah, the weekend, must you leave us already?
Once again this week I got off of work early. Since I had tons of time to kill I decided to walk home. Walking home turned into a visit to the Hull house and then the grocery store before deciding my groceries were actually way to heavy to carry and taking the bus. Also with my extra time, I decided to make bread from scratch which turned out soooo well. I had a lovely little dinner of almost all local stuff- my bread, family's homemade jam and veggies from the farmers' market. So yummy!
On Saturday after spying on a wedding from my window (I live next to a church) I went to a Stevie Wonder concert at the Taste of Chicago (a food and music festival). The concert was really good though to be fair I was more there for the people watching than the music. It was unbelievably crowded and I basically had to stay in one spot for two and a half hours though people were pretty friendly. In particular, I was standing by these two men who took it upon themselves to help out a blind man near us after his companion went to get some water. It was so crowded she never made it back, but for two hours these men directed traffic around the man both verbally and physically by using their arms to make a guard rail. Though this sort of kindness should be second nature, I was really pleased and impressed.
Today was another trip to the flea market with my roommate as well as the Chicago Pride Parade. The parade was amazing and ridiculous with all sorts of interesting people, extravagant costumes, loud music and dancing. Through the sun and the showers, we stayed for over three hours and it was still going when we left. It was heartwarming to see all of the people that were showing their pride and everyone being supportive of them.
On to week two of work!
