One of my favorite things about Chicago, or at least about the area I live in, is the idyllic little park located about half a block from my house. I often go there in the evenings to read, relax, or just to cool off. Its also a great place to pass a whole lazy weekend day.
A lot of times there are little kids playing in the park and once there was a entire tee-ball game that took place there. Sometimes on the weekends families come out with their coolers and set up in the shade for hours. The most popular uses are for people to use the track that goes along the outside to walk their dogs or do a little jogging. There are so many dogs that I feel there might be a club in the neighborhood and I'm not fully part of the neighborhood until I get a dog of my own. (That is not going to happen.)
There is actually a smaller part away from the walking path, a smaller clearing about a quarter of the size of the rest of it. I kind of like this part best because from there you can hear the fountain as you sit there. The fountain features a quite large statue of Columbus who looks at you with his beady cooper eyes as you walk around him. Someone in the neighborhood is in charge of gardening and does a great job with the landscaping around the fountain. Dusk is definitely the best time to be in the park-- the wooded parts fill up with fireflies. Secretly i think that Fire Fly Park would be a much better name for the park.
