It seems, quite inadvertently, that the two things I post most often about are work (which was somewhat the purpose of this blog) and food (in the form of farmer's markets or other things that I've tried). I've decided to dedicate this post to food.
It seems a little ridiculous to be writing about this, but I love food. In fact now that I have lots of time in the evenings, thinking about and preparing food has become a big part of my life. And, I gotta brag a little, I think I'm a pretty good cook. Granted this comes only from my own opinion of things that I cook only because I know I am going to like them before I even get started cooking--I might be a little biased. My family thinks I'm a good cook too, or at least mom and dad would indulge me into thinking they like my vegetarian creations at least.
Anyways, cooking all for myself instead of cooking half my meals and having the other half in the dining hall like last year has allowed me to try more thinks that have been quite yummy. And since its summer time I have been frequenting farmer's markets in the area so that I have lots of great produce. In particular I have been proud of my homemade bread. Unfortunately, I can't eat enough of the bread to finish it all before it starts to get a little furry. Half the fun is the kneading and waiting for it to rise and the smell of freshly baked bread. I also was proud of my dinner tonight, which prompted the post in the first place. I made a really simple peanut sauce and poured it over some steamed veggies and rice. It turned out the sauce was pretty runny so it turned a little soupy but I think that just made it better.
I love cooking so much that it makes me a little sad for my room mate who eats a ton of freezer dinners instead of trying good food (its okay though, I don't like her anyways). I have always liked to cook, for myself and definitely for other people, specifically for the satisfaction it brings and at least when I have time to cook or bake it is a great way to destress.Am I just a crazy vegetarian or do other people feel this way about food?
