One of the things I have gotten myself involved with this summer is the Global Autism Project, and I thought I would round out July by telling you a little bit about what we are up to.
The Global Autism Project seeks to end the global gap between autism resources and awareness and create a world were children with autism, no matter where they live, can have access to the support they need. GAP is currently focuses on Ghana and supports a clinic there that serves over 50 children with Autism and their families. GAP's flagship event here in the states is a fundraiser called Paddle for Autism Awareness which takes places in cities across the US every summer. This year is the fifth year for Chicago and we are hoping to make it bigger and better than ever. During the event itself, children with Autism, their friends, family, and other supporters have the opportunity to try out kayaking under the supervision of trained kayak instructors. Participants aren't charged for the experience, but we do ask that they raise funds for GAP before the event.
Now, here's how I fit in. I am the Marketing Intern for the paddle event here in Chicago. This means I am trying to spread awareness of the event to schools, organizations that help children with Autism, and pretty much anyone who will listen. Which is were you all fit in. If you are in the Chicago area, dear reader, please come to our events! The kick off event will be a night of drinks, food and fun on September 10th. The paddle event is September 12th. And if you aren't in Chicago, dear reader, do not despair! You can visit my First Giving page to help me meet my fund raising goal: this link will take you there!
If you want to learn more about the Global Autism Project or the Paddle for Autism Awareness event you can also visit the GAP website. Thanks everyone!
